Building a Website That Reflects the Whole Me
Today, I made a pretty significant decision about the direction of my website. When I first started working on it, the idea was to focus on my writing—something to showcase my stories and creative projects. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that my site needed to be about more than just writing. It needed to reflect me, my life, and the many different interests and curiosities I have.
My writing is a big part of who I am, but it’s not the only part. I’m someone who dives into new projects, learns as much as I can about whatever grabs my interest, and I don’t always stick with things long enough to see them through. And I’m okay with that—it’s all part of the fun for me. Whether it’s trying out new recipes, revisiting old theatre textbooks, researching stock ETFs, or getting back into photography, I realized that all of these pursuits deserve a space on the site.
So, I spent a lot of today refocusing the website to be more about my journey as a whole. I created new sections, like Extraordinary Pursuits, where I can document my random projects and hobbies, and Creative Showcase, where I’ll feature my writing, photography, and other creative endeavors. The goal is for the site to feel like a reflection of who I am—not just a writer, but a lifelong learner and explorer of ideas, projects, and experiences.
It’s been refreshing to let go of the idea that my site has to be focused on just one thing. Instead, it’s becoming a space where I can showcase my interests as they evolve, without feeling the pressure to stay within one box. I’m excited to share not just my writing but everything that captures my curiosity.
There’s still plenty of work to do, and I’ll be adding more of my own creative work over time, but I think today was a turning point. The website will be a place where I can freely explore and document all the things that make up my life, not just my writing.
